Families
Adult Formation
Creating opportunities for formation, connection and deepening relationships is part of the generous sharing of our time, appreciation and love for one another. Here are some ways to connect:
- Women’s Meditation and Study Group led by Fran Bean
- Connected Parenting led by Fran and Gareth
- St. Barnabas Book Group led by Lea Richardson
- REPAIR: Rivertowns Episcopal Parishes Action on Inclusion and Race led by Karl Weber
Adult Learning
In the spirit of life-long learning and the deepening of our knowledge of the Christian faith, the rector offers the following weekly programming:
- Morning Bible Study, Wednesday and Thursday at 9:30 am
- Sunday Sermons: the rector is always happy to share a sermon with anyone who particularly wants to hear it again at home
Connected Parenting
We are a group of parents who lean on each other and learn from telling our stories, listening to Scripture and podcasts, writing, reading, and listening for God’s purpose in our families.
We begin our time together with a meal, followed by group reflection and prayer. While our children are occupied with a child care provider, We take time out on a Sunday evening to discuss themes such as what we struggle with and how we are listening to God’s purpose. We have focused on themes such as constructing a vision statement for family life, raising boys, forgiveness and reconciliation, to name a few.
Fellowship
While St. B’s may not necessarily be your primary place for socializing, it is the place where you are guaranteed to find good food and spiritual fellowship combined. Here are two new programs for you to find food for the soul.
- Bread and Banter Monthly Lunch for retirement-age members led by Gareth
- Community Supper with Spiritual Reflection led by Gareth and Fran
Music
Saint Barnabas’s Anthem and Open Sing Choirs meet on Sunday mornings to learn SATB+ repertoire together with Music Director and Organist Jesse Goldberg. All our welcome, and encouraged to expand their praise to include this wonderful fellowship.
Our repertoire spans from Holst and Bach to brand new commissions by living composers, and features a diverse array of composers from many historically under-represented groups. Our schedule includes the following:
- 9 AM vocal warm-up followed by 9:15 AM rehearsal on Sundays
- Rehearsal following the service for members who want to look ahead to upcoming music
- An evening of Sacred Song in December, and a Mother’s Day concert
In addition to the wonderful work of the choir, St. Barnabas also hosts the Riverview Chamber Series, and will kick off the inaugural season in 2025.
